How you can pay your Council Tax

Direct Debit; set up and pay automatically every month

You can choose to pay on the 1st. 11th. 20th or 28th of each month.

If you do not currently pay by Direct Debit and wish to start doing so, you can use our online form HERE (or by using the link to the right).

If you wish to change any of the following :-

  • The date of an existing Direct Debit,
  • The name on the account your Direct Debit is set on, or
  • To change to use a different Bank/Building Society account,
  • Please Download a Direct Debit form here

    The signed and completed form may be posted to us, or scanned and e-mailed to revenueservices@northampton.gov.uk .

    Alternatively, you can arrange this by phone by ringing our Customer Services Team on 0300 330 7000.

    Please have your bank details with you when you phone.

    Please note that a 1.34% commission charge is added where payment is made by credit card.

    All cheques should be made payable to "Northampton Borough Council ".

    Please write your council tax reference number clearly on the reverse of any cheques (please do not send cash by unregistered mail).

    Please note that no receipt will be issued unless you request one.

    Council Tax is normally paid over ten monthly instalments, April to January. However, from 2013/2014 if you wish to request monthly instalments until March, please contact us within seven days of receipt of your new bill.

    Please note that in some circumstances where your account is in arrears we may not be able to offer this facility immediately.
