How we work
Our values guide the way we work and shape the culture at HM Treasury.
Challenging: professional and credible
We take pride in excellence. Our professionalism and credibility depend on us doing the right thing through our integrity, impartiality and knowledge.
Appreciative: everyone matters
Ours is an inclusive, diverse culture where everyone makes a telling contribution. Colleagues recognise each other’s hard work and build strong mutual trust.
Collaborative: spirit of partnership
Our people never operate in isolation. Collaborative, team-based working enriches the quality of our work by drawing on different ideas and perspectives.
Open: clarity in our communication
While discretion is called for at times, we are as clear, open and honest as we can be when explaining our decisions and sharing information.

Learning & Development
Wherever you are in
your career, you will always find opportunities to grow your skills and knowledge at HM Treasury (please see the Graduates section to find out about graduate development).
Every Group has a budget for learning and development; you will have your own development plan, agreed with your manager as part of objective setting each year.
Our Learning Portal provides courses in everything from people management to IT to communications to economics for non-economists. Anything not listed in the Learning Portal is likely to be found in the Civil Service Learning Portal to which you will have access. Other development opportunities include external courses, seminars, conferences and further education. Some Groups organise internal training events or invite speakers to discuss relevant topics.
You may even receive financial support and/or time off to gain relevant professional qualifications, or to keep your continuing professional development (CPD) up to date.
