I’ve written about myself and America for nearly three decades and through various media incarnations. from Frommer’s to Playboy to now Forbes. However, I'm best known as the co-founder/editor of Monk: the Mobile Magazine. which, from 1986-1998, I peripatetically published from the dashboard of my 26-foot “Monkmobile.” Via Monk Magazine. my fellow “Monk,” Michael Lane. and I pioneered “the mobile office” (Portable Computing Magazine) and invented “dashboard publishing” (Factsheet Five).
I remain an active partner in L.A.-based Monk, which has grown to include the production company Monk Media. Monk Web Hosting. and the film production warehouse Monk Space .
I earned a Bachelor of Science in Speech from Northwestern and a Master’s in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College.
“the Great Books School.” In my spare time, I lead and attend St.-John's-style great books discussion groups around the world.
For over three decades I've been actively involved in American education, including teaching and/or coaching gigs at Columbia University, LaGuardia College, Stuyvesant High School, Bronx High School of Science, and the Eagle Academy for Young Men. I was also the Assistant Director of Development at the New Mexico Academy for Sciences and Mathematics.
