The determination will include:
• How your total Benefit Amount is determined.
• Your Weekly Benefit Amount.
• Your Available Credits.
• Your Benefit Year end date.
Once you receive all your available credits for your Benefit Year, you may not file a new claim for benefits until your Benefit Year ends. The year ends one year from the date you originally filed your claim.
When you file a claim, you must serve a non-payable waiting week. The waiting week is the first week in which you are totally or partially unemployed, you claim your week and you meet all eligibility requirements. You will not be paid for this required waiting week.
The Department of Economic Opportunity’s Labor Market Statistics Program determined that the average unemployment rate in Florida during the quarter ending September 30, 2013 was 7.0 percent. Due to this determination, the maximum available credits for claims established in 2014 are lowered from $5,225 to $4,400. This translates into a maximum weekly benefit amount (WBA) of $275.
What You Need to Know
• For all new claims effective January 1 through December 31, 2014, the duration of benefits is 16 weeks.
• Your benefits will begin on the day your application is completed.
• It takes about three to four weeks to receive your first benefit payment.
• The maximum weekly benefit amount for Florida is $275.
Emergency Unemployment Compensation
Unemployment Compensation (EUC) is a federal extension given to individuals who have exhausted all regular Florida reemployment assistance benefits.
EUC was enacted in 2008. In Florida, EUC is regularly available in three tiers of eligibility. These include EUC tiers I and II, which currently provide 54 percent of the amount of an individual’s state claim and tier III, which was affected by sequestration. For tier III, Florida is required to reduce the EUC remaining entitlement for all claimants to three weeks or 15.79 percent of their regular state claim entitlement, whichever is less.
This program is no longer available in the state. The last week an individual received EUC was the week ending December 28, 2013.

Unemployment compensation benefits are considered taxable income.
You may request that income tax be either withheld or not withheld. If you choose to withhold income tax, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will withhold 10 percent of your Weekly Benefit Amount. The IRS will mail you a 1099-G form every year reporting the amount of benefits paid and the amount of tax withheld during the previous calendar year.
