Step 1

Determine if you are eligible for Social Fund assistance. For most grants and loans, applicants must be receiving Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance or Pension Credit. If you are not receiving one of these, you may be eligible for a Crisis Loan from the Social Fund if you have an emergency or disaster that threatens the health or safety of you or your family.

Step 2

Choose which Social Fund program best meets your needs. The Community Care Grant assists individuals who are returning home after being in care or trying to avoid going into care. The Budgeting Loan helps individuals with everyday needs, such as furniture, clothing and rent. The Funeral Payment may be issued to cover the cost of

a funeral. Finally, the Sure Start Maternity Grant assists with the costs associated with a new baby.

Step 3

Download, print and complete the applicable Social Fund form. Go the JobCentre Plus Website at Click "Want to make a claim to benefit or report a change?" Select the "A to Z list" hyperlink. From the list displayed, click on "Social Fund." Click the loan or grant that best meets your needs. Click the hyperlink to download application form. Print and complete the form in ink.

Step 4

Mail or take your application to the nearest JobCentre Plus office.

Step 5

Receive your decision letter within 1 to 2 weeks. The amount you receive will be indicated in the letter.
