Depends on whether or not you want to give half of your property to you partner.

If you want to give it to them, all you have to do is put their name on the title and send the

title to the mortgage company. They will then have to assume the mortgage payment if you don't make it.

Same as when a married couple gets a divorce. If the property was owned by both because they bought it together during the marriage, whoever gets the house usually gets the mortgage.

But, if the house belonged to one before they were married, the original owner may chose to keep the house in their name alone.

Once the two of you decide what you want to do as regards to the property, a lawyer's advice should be very inexpensive on how to proceed.

The basic decision is: Does your partner get 1/2 of your property? Will your partner assume responsibility for the mortgage (should you die)? If your partner owns half, how do you divide the property should you separate?
