Join a library

what is a lending library

Once you have completed the online form, which automatically gives you two months temporary membership allowing access to some of our remotely available electronic resources , you can then pick up your card from your nominated library.

You will need to bring a proof of address such as:

  • A current utility bill e.g. gas, electric, water, council tax
  • Driving licence
  • Bank statement
  • Medical card

If you would like to extend your temporary membership, which allows you to download our free e-books, simply visit any City of London library  to collect your card.

Anyone 16 years old or above can join free of charge as a full adult member provided they have proof of their permanent address anywhere in the UK. If you are under 16, please visit your

local library to join, as we will require a signature from your parent/guardian.

Join at your local library

If you don't want to join online, visit your local library  and our staff will register you as a member and issue your card to you. You may also enrol your children as members and arrangements can sometimes be made for visitors to the City to join.

Your membership card is valid at all the City’s lending libraries .
