I am graduating from college this semester with an Associates of Science in Communication. I have no credit card debt but have roughly $50,000 in student loan debt. due to out of state tuition costs and loss of a job I had. I have a job as a NJCAA sports broadcaster at a community college and make about $300-$500 a weekend doing it.
My credit score is between 623 and 664 and on the rise. There were negative things on my report but are currently being removed through inaccuraccies and disputes, which is raising the scores. I have a total of $74 in paid chargeoff’s on my report….that’s it. I have established car loans payed off, jewelry store, discount tire, all kinds of stuff. I’m trying to start a life with my girl and kids….this isfrustrating!!
My question is: I am having a terrible time getting approved for any type of credit card other then a $300 limit, $59 annunal fee HSBC card, which I know
reflects negatively on my credit report. What in the world could the problem possibly be? Are my positive standing, but yet to be paided on student loans affecting this?
Your credit score isn’t all that pretty yet. The more you apply and are rejected the more it hurts you. The answer here is simple, get a secured credit card that reports to the three credit bureaus. Not only will this help to boost your score faster but it will get new good credit reported on the credit reports.
Take a look at secured cards available and look for one that has little or no annual fee and reports to all three credit bureaus.
If you follow this advice you’ll get out of this hole quickly.
Please update me on your progress by posting updates here in the comments section of your question. I’m very interested in how this works out for you.
By the way, congratulations on graduating and the job.
