Angie Harmon 'finds a relative who was bought and sold' as a slave in latest Who Do You Think You Are? teaser

Angie Harmon discovered her fifth great-grandfather Michael was an indentured servant in the latest teaser of TLC's Who Do You Think You Are .

The 42-year-old actress - who always believed she was of Greek, Irish and Native American descent - made a surprising discovery when she traced all the way up her family tree.

The Rizzoli & Isles star searched through old family records to find more information regarding her ancestor who emigrated from Germany as a slave.

Angie uncovered the startling story about her father Lawrence's roots, something she's always wondered about but never really looked into.

The star set out to learn more about her great-grandfather Michael, who took many hardships as an immigrant coming to America.

'That's terrifying. You really are giving up your freedom and placing your life in someone else's hands,' she shared after learning about her relative.

She discovered that Michael - who was the first immigrant ancestor on the Harmon side - fought for his new country's independence in the American Revolution and risked everything 'at a pivotal point in the nation's history.'

Michael even served as a soldier in George Washington's regiment at Valley Forge and won the protest for basic rights of food, clothing and shelter.

After being released from servitude, Angie's family member made a wealthy living for himself owning multiple plantations and creating a large family including seven children.

'This gives me new light into the rest of my life and how I'm going to live it,' she explained while walking on the same grounds as her five times great-grandfather.

Angie taped the WDYTYA segment back in October 2014 and also chronicled her incredible self-discovery on her social media pages.
