A dependant child is a single person under the age of 18 years. A fund may consider someone between the age of 18 and 24 years old as a dependant if, for example, the person is a full-time student - check with the fund for details.

A young adult dependant is a single person between the ages of 18 and 24 years who is not considered a child according to the fund's rules - for example, if they are not a full time student. Funds may allow a young adult to be covered on the same policy as adults in exchange for a higher premium - check with the fund for details.

Hospital policies cover your costs as a private patient in hospital, including hospital accommodation, medical treatment and (in some states) ambulance.

General treatment policies cover health services not covered by Medicare,

such as dental, optical, physiotherapy and naturopathy, and may also cover ambulance.

Obtaining cover for both Hospital and General treatment services has two options:

  • A Combined policy from a single insurer, or
  • you can choose one Hospital policy plus one General treatment policy, from the same insurer or even two different insurers.

Teachers Health Fund - Covering education union members and their families

Navy Health Ltd - Serving /civilian personnel of ADF, Employees of ADF Contractors and their families.

Railway and Transport Health Fund Limited - Transport and electricity employees and relatives

TUH - Current or former union members and their families.
