Medicare Part C provides you with a way to meet the costs of your Part A and Part B hospital and medical expenses. It also covers those expenses, fees, and services that you would normally use Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) to cover. Some Medicare Part C plans also provide you with Medicare Part D coverage, the prescription drug benefit.
The services covered by Medicare Advantage Plans generally are those considered medically necessary under Original Medicare. Emergency health care and urgent care needs are also covered by your Part C insurance plan. The only services not covered by your Medicare Part C plan is hospice care related to Part A or Part B services (hospice care, however, is covered under Original Medicare if deemed medically necessary by your health care provider).
Part C covers additional (extra) services that are not covered by Original Medicare and would require the addition of a Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) plan. These services include vision care, dental care, hearing care, and health and wellness programs. Services not considered medically necessary by Medicare may require you to pay 100% of the cost; however, under Medicare Part C, you do retain the right to appeal any decision regarding costs not covered.
