What does Pet Insurance cover?

what does pet insurance cover

Pet Insurance covers essential medical costs in an emergency. Depending on the plan you choose, it can also help pay for treatment when your pet is ill, plus routine pet healthcare like teeth cleaning and worming.

Real Pet Insurance covers dogs and cats – two of the most popular family pets in Australia, and among the most expensive to treat. Australians spent more than $2.9 billion on vet care services in 2013 alone – with the majority of this spend used on veterinary services (totalling around $1.7 billion a year). 69% of this amount was spent on dog care, while 27% was spent on cat care. 1 But Pet Insurance can make caring for your pet much more affordable.

With Real Pet Insurance, you’ll be covered for:

Accidental injury

Whichever Pet Insurance plan you choose, we help to pay the cost of treating injuries from car accidents, falls, burns and snake bites up to a maximum of

$8,000 per year (Pre-existing Conditions are excluded).

Illness

When you choose our Standard or Premium Accident and Illness plans, we cover up to 75% or up to 80% of eligible vet bills for treating both accidental injury and a wide range of common illnesses up to a maximum of $12,000 per year.

Extra benefits at no extra cost

All our Pet Insurance plans give you a range of extra benefits at no extra cost, including emergency boarding when you’re in hospital; overseas cover when you’re travelling with your pet; and essential euthanasia. 2

Tick paralysis treatment

If you choose our Premium or Standard Accident and Illness Cover, you’re protected for the expenses of treatment for any conditions caused by a paralysis tick bite. 2

Routine care

You can add a Routine Care Benefit to our Premium Accident and Illness Cover to reduce the cost of everyday care – from vaccinations to teeth cleaning.
