1 - I am an instructor/assistant instructor/divemaster PADI EMEA. What type of insurance plan is most suitable for me? Where can I find information on the supplement to increase my liability coverage? (TOP)

If you are an instructor/assistant instructor/divemaster PADI EMEA, choose one of our insurance plans Pro Bronze, Pro Silver or Pro Gold. In all three cases, the liability coverage is € 4.000.000, as required by your training agency.

2 - I am an instructor/assistant instructor/dive guide. Are you able to inform my training agency directly about my DAN insurance plan? (TOP)

Yes, only if you request so. On the register/renew form you will find a blank space to fill in. Please remember that DAN offers only a notification service and this does not replace the instructor's obligation to fulfill the contractual duties signed for at the time of certification.

3 - Is it true that being a dive instructor with a DAN Pro membership plan my students are automatically insured? Or, do I have to insure them separately with a Dive Student membership? (TOP)

Our professional plans include a diving accident insurance for a limited number of students (depending on the level Bronze, Silver or Gold) with an annual aggregate cover limit of €15.000. Guide

7 - I am a professional diver and work/live abroad. Is there any limitation concerning my coverage for non-diving emergencies and travel? (TOP)

The DAN Europe insurance coverages have a validity of 12 months. Coverage for diving emergencies has no other time limitations: dive anywhere in the world, anytime, and enjoy peace of mind with DAN!

Just bear in mind, however, that for the non-diving cover there is a maximum number of insured travelling days, starting when you leave your home country:

  • PRO Bronze: 60 days per journey, per year
  • PRO Silver: 90 days per journey, per year
  • PRO Gold: 120 days per journey, per year

Hence, if you work abroad for long periods, we strongly recommend you that you take the Travel No-Limits cover and check the benefits of your primary non-diving and travel coverage with your health insurance provider.

8 - Is my DAN Europe subscription valid in the USA and Canada? (TOP)

Yes, the subscription to DAN Europe and the related medical coverage is valid worldwide including the USA and Canada. In the specific case of the Third Party Liability and Legal Expenses policy for professional divers, the coverage applies only if you are sued in a court or according to the laws of Countries within the DAN Europe territory. The insurance companies of DAN Europe are not authorized to offer liability coverage to residents or companies registered in the territories of USA and/or Canada.

Below are a few examples of

how the liability coverage applies:

  • If you are in the USA or Canada for an instruction trip or to accompany European students/clients, you are covered only according to the policy terms and conditions and if you are sued in a court or according to the laws applying within the DAN Europe territory. Here one has to consider the likelihood that the student or client would sue once back in Europe rather than in the USA or Canada
  • If you are in the USA or Canada for an instruction trip or to accompany European students/clients you are covered by the policy terms and conditions. Your coverage also applies if you are sued in a court of law, or according to the laws of countries within the DAN Europe territory. In this case, one has to consider the likelihood that the student or client would pursue the claim once back in Europe, rather than in the USA or Canada.
  • If you are insured, and carry out professional activity in the USA or Canada not in compliance with the local immigration, or employment and insurance laws, your insurance coverage may become invalid depending on the violations of law.

3 - What is covered by the premises liability insurance? (TOP)

Premises Liability covers the liability at law of a property owner and/or operator for accidental bodily injury or illness of any person and/or accidental loss of or damage to material property occurring within or from the insured Dive Centre and arising in connection with the insured Dive Club services. For liability at law to apply, there would normally be the need for the accident to have been caused by the property owner and/or operator's negligence or failure of his duty of care. By way of example this could include injuries occurring on the premises caused by a dive tank hitting clients after the collapse of storage rack, or damage to neighboring property following a fire in the dive centre.

Can this insurance replace a normal building third party liability?

Yes the extension is in fact a third party liability policy for the building.

If someone is injured in my dive centre and the accident has nothing to do with diving, am I covered even if the injured person is not a diver client?

Yes, the Premises Liability extension covers the civil liability towards third parties injured on your premises, even if they are not divers. It is important though that the premises are only used as a dive centre.

Is it valid for all the premises and offices used by my dive centre? If the association or the dive centre has more than one building where it carries out its activities, is the cover valid for all locations?

The cover for the premises liability is only valid at the addresses specified on the insurance schedule, that is the registered address and the operative location.
