Max, as someone else has stated why are you looking to start your own agency when it doesn't sound like you know what you are doing or how to go about even getting started? I'm not trying to be jerk just trying to rationalize with you here and provide you with some good feedback. Maybe you do know what you are doing you just asked the question in a very open ended manner.
I have been a broker for 7 years now and have thought about many times starting my own agency. I have a concept in my head and have actually written down ideas and things I need to get started. I have spoken with people that have/had their own agencies and started to put together a business model. I have a place to
start is where I am going with this. I know what needs to be done to make it happen.
Starting any company is tough, but starting an insurance agency is very difficult and takes plenty of planning.
I think one of the best pieces of advice I got was write down the road blocks or things that might make me fail and come up with multiple solutions or back up plans to overcome that road block. The tough part is you do not know what can make you fail and that's why you talk to someone you trust that has 'been there and done that'.
If your number 1 road block is writing new business and/or obtaining qualified prospects then you should probably scratch this idea off the drawing board.
