Event Summary: This event focuses on topics relating to financial inclusion, microfinance investment vehicles, branchless banking, microinsurance, market segmentation, distribution channels for reaching poor people, and microfinance regulation and policy in Pakistan.
Background on Organizers: The summit will be co-hosted by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) and the Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN). PPAF is a public-private partnership founded in 1997 with USD 90 million from the World Bank and USD 10 million from the Pakistani government. PPAF provides loans, grants and technical assistance to microfinance institutions across the country. Support of the microfinance sector is part of PPAF’s broader strategy of poverty alleviation that also includes drought mitigation, education and health interventions. PMN is a network of microfinance
providers in Pakistan that aims to promote financial access for poor people. PMN’s membership base comprises 19 microfinance institutions, five rural support programs and five other microfinance providers as of January 2013. Its main objectives are promoting an enabling environment for microfinance, disseminating information and capacity building, especially for retail microfinance institutions.
