The San Diego Fourth Annual Microfinance Summit Set for April 4

ACCION San Diego and other local microfinance organizations will come together to host the fourth annual San Diego Microfinance Summit Wednesday, April 4 from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at University of San Diego’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice.

The San Diego Microfinance Summit aims to educate those interested in or passionate about the field of microfinance on the local and international work of San Diego’s microfinance organizations in order to promote collaboration across the area’s microfinance community. Sponsored by Citibank, this year’s summit will highlight how the development of innovative strategies and new technologies are changing the face of the industry. The event will feature general sessions with national industry experts, opportunities to get involved in microfinance, as well as breakout session panels about pioneering microfinance models and the impact of technology in the field.

“This year’s conference builds on the past three years of successful events,” said Executive Director Elizabeth Schott. “Microfinance, just like many other industries, is changing quickly and this event focuses on the current state and the future of microfinance in the United States and the rest of the world, especially when it comes to technological advances in the field.”

The 2012 San Diego Microfinance Summit will feature Chris Dunford as the keynote speaker. Dunford is the past president of Freedom

from Hunger and has more than 35 years of rural development experience in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the U.S.

Some other highlights of this year’s summit include a pre-summit networking mixer at Ritual Tavern and a catered breakfast and lunch provided by local restaurateurs whom are also local microfinance clients. During the lunch buffet, there will be a local entrepreneur marketplace where microfinance clients will sell their products and services. Among the expected vendors will be artisans, jewelers, bakers, and craftsmen.

If purchased before March 21, tickets to the summit are $12 for students, faculty and staff, and $25 for the general public. If purchased after March 21, tickets are $20 for students, faculty and staff, and $35 for the general public. To register for the summit, visit
