KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities say a man disguised as a woman robbed a Kansas City payday loan company late Thursday morning.

Police say the man entered Advance America, 606 E. 99th St. about 10:45 a.m. and demanded money. No one was injured during the robbery.

The man then fled the store and hopped into a waiting vehicle.

Witnesses say they saw three men drive away from the scene in a late '90s, maroon-colored Monte Carlo. The store is just west of Holmes Road in south Kansas City.

Police saw the getaway car at the Fast Stop convenience store at Gregory and Cleveland boulevards. One man went inside and coolly asked employees for a

pack of cigarettes before heading to the restroom. Soon, officers were swarming in and arrested the man inside the bathroom where he was removing his makeup, police said.

The two men waiting in the vehicle took off from the gas station.

Police chased the vehicle, which was involved in a crash at East Gregory Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue. The maroon vehicle smashed into a tree. The two men were arrested near East 70th Street and Walrond Avenue.

No injuries were reported in the single-vehicle crash.

One man said he heard what he thought was rain or thunder. He looked out his door and saw the car had smashed into a tree.

"I was coming out with the lawnmower and it scared the hell out of me," Wallace Taylor said.

"He lost control," Taylor said. "He hit my tree and went airborne over there and that was it. And the guy was hanging out of the window. I thought he was dead but he wasn't. He finally went to moving but he was knocked out."

The three men are in jail as prosecutors consider filing armed robbery charges against them.
