Cambridge Boat Club is a very active member of the Cambridge and Charles River communities.

The club hosts the Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS) rowing program. CRLS has a keen group of school students who row out of the clubhouse in the spring and fall, and compete successfully in regional regattas.

Other Cambridge middle school students have also participated in learn to row programs, designed to generate an early interest in the sport before the kids enter high school.

Annual events include:
  • Several visits by senior citizens from the city of Cambridge community to the Boat Club. The visits have included a talk on our history and rowing, a tour of the facilities, a rowing demonstration and refreshments or a picnic.
  • Providing annual support to the annual Charles River Canoe and Kayak race (Run of the Charles )
  • Actively helping with the Charles River clean-up projects
  • Support for rowing organizations, such as

    G-Row and Community Rowing

CBC provides and maintains a public drinking water fountain located by the sidewalk in front of the club. It is both human and pet friendly and is the only drinking fountain on the left bank between Watertown Square and Harvard Square. It is used daily by hundreds of riverbank walkers and joggers and their pets.

CBC members have helped organize and participate in an informal group of head coaches and club representatives making up the Charles River Safety Committee to agree upon traffic rules, lighting standards and with the further objective of keeping lines of communication open among the various users of the river.

Members of the club were instrumental in establishing Community Rowing, Inc (CRI) and also in the more recent construction of CRIs own new boat house. Members of the club also founded the Head of the Charles regatta which has grown to become a Boston and International sporting tradition.
