Best Answer: As a tax consultant for the past 27 years, as well as a former CRA employee (on contract), I speak to CRA nearly everyday during tax season on behalf of my clients.
CRA informed me on Thursday, March 22, 2007, that any 2006 tax returns electronically filed AFTER MARCH 15, 2007, are being processed within 10 business days.
Given the fact that CRA shut down all processing from March 6, 2007, to March 15, 2007, any returns that were submitted before March 6, 2007, are unfortunately delayed at this point due to the enormous backlog.
I spoke with several of my clients who telefiled their tax returns back on March 16, 2007, they told me their refunds were in their bank accounts on March 26, 2007.
I also talked to a client of mine who telefiled his 2006 tax return on March 4, 2007, who has still not received his refund.
If you want to find out if your return has been processed, you can call CRA's automated 24 hour phone line called TIPS at 1-800-267-6999 and chose option "1" to find out the status of your 2006 income tax return refund.
To use this service, you would need your SIN, your month and year of birth, and the amount of income you reported at line 150 of your 2005 tax return.
The system is updated daily, it will let you know if your return has been processed, and if it has, the date you can expect your refund to be sent out.
If you have direct deposit, then the refund will be automatically deposited into your bank account that CRA has on file.
If you don't want to use this automated service, you can also contact CRA's general inquiries at 1-800-959-8281.
Hope this information helps you.
