how to become a internal auditor

New qualifications for a global profession

Internal audit is a complex and fast evolving field and it is growing quickly as a global profession. Holding an IIA qualification will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to succeed, as well as the recognition and status internal auditors deserve.

IIA qualifications are recognised internationally. And, our unique ability to award Chartered Internal Auditor status means you can achieve the same high levels of prestige and credibility enjoyed by members of other leading professions.

This year we adopted the Certified Internal Auditor  (CIA) and the new Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership  (QIAL), which leads to Chartered Internal Auditor status.

Certified Internal Auditor

If you’re serious about a career in internal audit, becoming a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) will give you the skills, knowledge and career prospects you need to achieve your goals.

This stimulating postgraduate programme leads to the CIA designation. It’s the global benchmark for the profession with 140,000 CIA holders worldwide.

Chartered Internal Auditor

If you’re already qualified in internal audit, why not maximise your potential and raise your profile by becoming a Chartered Internal Auditor? The new Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership leads to chartered status, and the CMIIA designation, and also to the new leadership designation QIAL.

How can I become chartered?

There are two ways you can become chartered:

1. By taking our professional qualifications:

  • Complete the CIA. followed by
  • Three case study exams  of the Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership and a professional experience journal

2. Become chartered by experience via our experiential route. This is for experienced professionals who are working as heads of internal audit.
