how to deduct mileage on taxes

I have worked for myself for several years, and filing 1040, deducting all my business related expenses (travel, mileage, etc.). Well I do quite a bit of volunteer work for my church, and i just found out that I can deduct my volunteer mileage (14 cents per mile).

My question - where on the 1040 or schedule SC would i put those deductions? And is it possible to back-date those deductions since I started doing this volunteer work in 2007? This is a first for me, so how would I do it?

Thanks in advance for the help :)

Update: Let me just add - yes, I was referring to Schedule C. And I have all the miles documented. Every mile i drive, for the last several years, i've documented the odometer reading in an Excel spreadsheet, and

then described. (i.e. 24,403 - 24,418 = driving to client and back; 24,418 - 24,425 = going to movie. show more Let me just add - yes, I was referring to Schedule C. Total mileage across the last 3 years, i tallied up the other day, is almost 20,000 miles! (i drive 700 miles a week, and a good portion of that is charity work).

I'm new to the terminology of taxes (i've filed the same way, doing the same thing, for the last 5 or 6 years), but as far as i know i don't itemize (i multiply the mileage driven for work by the $0.55 and deduct that - is that what that means? that's not, to my knowledge, itemizing). So do i do the same thing, but with charity miles, and by $0.14?
