Filing an Extension in Arizona

The Arizona Department of Revenue requires that you file for an automatic six-month extension to file your tax return. You have two options to do so:

1, If you require a federal tax extension in addition to a state extension, you are able to fulfill the requirement for both simply by requesting your . File your Arizona return by the same due date. You do not have to attach a copy of your federal extension to your return, but make sure that you check either box 82D or box 82F on page 1 of the return.

2. If you only require a state tax extension, go ahead and apply for a state extension using Arizona Form 204. To apply for a state extension, file Arizona Form 204 by April 15, 2014. You must attach a copy of the Arizona extension to the back of your return when you file. Also, make sure that you check either box 82D or 82F on page 1 of the return. An extension to file your return is not an extension of time to pay your taxes.

If You Owe

To avoid an extension underpayment penalty you must pay at least 90% of the tax due by April 15, 2015. If you owe taxes, payment must be made by April 15, 2015 or penalty and interest will be assessed. If you cannot meet the filing deadline, you should apply for an extension. The extension allows additional time to complete and file your income tax return; however, the extension does not provide additional time to pay the amount of tax owed.

Pay your taxes online at www.AZTaxes.gov. Click on the “Make a Payment” link. Most major credit cards, as well as Visa or MasterCard branded

debit cards, and E-Check are accepted.

You can also pay online at Official Payments Corporation. Visa, MasterCard, Discover Network, and American Express credit and debit cards, and other forms of payment, such as Bill Me Later® are accepted. To make a debit card payment you can use a MasterCard or Visa Debit Card or any debit card with Nyce, Pulse or Star logos.

There is a convenience fee for this service which is paid directly to the company. The amount of the fee is based on the amount of your payment.

Pay by Phone

Pay your taxes by phone by calling Official Payments toll-free at 1-800-272-9829. This automated service is available 24 hours, 7 days a week. At the end of your call you will be given a confirmation number. Save this as proof of payment for your records.

Pay by Mail

Along with the extension form, send a check or money order in the amount of the estimated tax due made payable to Arizona Department of Revenue. Write your Social Security number and 2014 extension on the front of your payment. Attach payment to the front of Form 204 where shown. Mark your envelope “Extension Request.”
