How to make a SORN

Registered keepers can declare their vehicle is off the road via DVLA's online service, or by their telephone service. DVLA sends a confirmation letter within four weeks. You should contact DVLA if you do not receive it.

Online SORN

Note the reference number from your V5C registration certificate, V11 or V85/1 reminder and use DVLA's online SORN service .

Phone SORN

Note the reference number from your V5C registration certificate, V11 or V85/1 reminder and call DVLA on 0300 123 4321.

Refunds and Nil Value Tax Discs

If you're applying for a refund or returning a nil value tax disc because you're keeping the vehicle off the road, you must make a SORN from the V14 application form .

Buying a Vehicle with SORN

The day you buy the vehicle marks the end of the SORN period with the previous keeper. Make a new SORN if you intend to keep the vehicle off the road.
