This year is all about being metallic hot. Bold red lips and smokey eyes maybe in vogue, but if you truly want to stand out, make a mark this season by opting for various metallic shades. Internationaly and in India, the metallic hue is making heads turn.
Make-up expert Kapil Bhalla says, “Metallic shades in warm tones look best on Indian women. Gold, bronze, copper, white gold, purple, ink blue and frosted pink are some of the shades to go in for this season.”
Sparkly nail lacquer or a little dust of silver is all you need to be on-trend and fashionable. Read on to find out how to apply metallic shades on yourself.
Eye make-up is an integral component of every woman’s make-up. This season, metallic eye-shadows have been seen on the runways and have made it as one of the top most trends in 2012. Shades include creamy gold, rustic bronze, various shades of blue, magnetic silver and golden peach. Remember while playing up your eyes with metallic tones, everything else should be kept minimal. Use sheer colours for your skin and lips.
Prianka Kumar make-up expert says, “Metallic make-up combines rich high pigmented colour with intense shimmer. These work very well to highlight features on your face that you want to make stand out.”
- You can sport this look in the evening with a formal gown or a LBD.
Get the look:
> Apply an eye shadow base to help your eye make-up stay longer
> Line the inner rims of your upper and lower lids with a black or ink blue eyeliner
> Next, line outside the rims, top and bottom and then smudge slightly
> Apply a black, golden or bronze eye shadow to the liner with a small, angled eye shadow brush or a sponge tip applicator
> Bhalla adds, “Dry metallic pigments can also be used over a neutral colour cream based eye shadow.”
> Start with shadow by covering your entire lid with a metallic base shadow that is lighter than the colour you wish to use in the crease. If you want a dramatic impact, use shades from the same colour group
> Use a darker metallic shade in the crease of your eyelid. Use a small angled eye shadow brush to bring this colour to the corner of your eye and join it with the black on the lower lash line
> Use your finger to lightly blend all the colour on the eyelid so that the liner and the metallic
colours blend into a mosaic look
> Finish the look with a heated eyelash curler, curl lashes and apply 2 coats of black mascara
> Keep your lips matte muted
Metallic lips are soft and oh-so-sexy. They definitely capture lots of attention. While selecting metallic hues for your lips, always try to get a metallic lipstick with a base that will blend with your skin. Considering the condition of your lips is equally important since metallic shades tend to highlight every single crease and wrinkle in and near your lips.
Do not match your metallic lip colour with the colour of your clothes or else you'll tend to look cliché. Select light to medium shades for the day while in the evening you can opt for heavy metallic colours. Women with fairer complexion can opt for golden peach, ebony or rustic bronze while those with warmer skin tone can opt for wine-coloured metallic.
- You can try this look both for the day as well as the evening. Ideal with casual as well as formal wear.
Get the look:
> Bhalla suggests, “Metallic lips should be worn with a hint of colour on a matte red or pink”
> Slather some lip primer onto your lips in a thin coat. Let the primer sit on your lips for 2-3 minutes. Blot your pout with a tissue
> Trace your lips lightly with the lip liner pencil onto the outside edge of the top and bottom lips
> Fill the inner area with a very thin layer of colour with the pencil to set the metallic colour up perfectly
> Apply the metallic lipstick colour over the pencilled in colour in a even and neat layer. Blot lightly with a tissue and add some more colour
> Load the make-up brush with a neutral face powder and dust just a touch onto your lips. This will help the colour from fading
> Do not go dramatic on your eyes and keep the look minimal
"Metallic shades in browns, coppers, taupe, pinks and greys are ideal for the nails,”adds Kumar.
Get the look:
> Start with a clean dry smooth nail
> Apply a ridge filler base metallic coat and let it dry for about 2 minutes
> Next, apply 2 very thin coats of metallic white or bronze or gold to seal
The ridge filler allows you to get a smooth surface to start out. Remember the real key is to go very thin so that you don’t end up with thick spots on your nails.
